Choosing a Handheld RTK: The Eight Differences Between H13 and H11, and the Upgrade Path
Choosing a handheld RTK is not about which specification is larger; fix three things first, the accuracy the job needs, how the device is mounted and carried, and how data is returned and maintained.
Fix three things first, then look at the parameters
One, accuracy requirement. Work that needs a centimetre-level RTK fixed solution and fast convergence in a complex environment belongs to the H13 target scenario; work that only needs sub-metre to metre level and is mainly about position reporting and track recording is already covered by the H11 multi-frequency positioning. Writing down how much accuracy is needed and how long convergence may take is more useful than saying only that it must be accurate.
Two, mounting and carrying. Handheld survey, pole measurement, harness mounting and helmet mounting are all sensitive to weight and size: the H11 weighs 104g and suits long periods of wear; the H13 weighs 140.5g and trades this for a larger 4000mAh battery and an ISP high-definition screen, suiting all-day field work and roles that need to read values on site.
Three, communication and maintenance. If the project requires 4G full-network, remote parameter configuration, remote OTA and voice broadcast, choose the H13; if the positioning result is only returned over MQTT or HTTP, the H11 four-system multi-frequency plus NTRIP is enough to deliver. Both models share the same set of maintenance tools and data protocols (NMEA0183 / JSON / MQTT / JT/T808), so the maintenance side does not need two systems.

Scenario matching: when to choose the H13, and when the H11 is enough
- Engineering survey, land resources investigation, power and water inspection, pipe networks and transport/rail, GIS collection: needs a centimetre-level fixed solution and short convergence, choose the H13.
- Personnel and vehicle positioning management, field survey, inspection, security: mainly position reporting, track recording and status monitoring, the H11 is lighter and lower cost.
- Single-person work needing on-site readings and voice prompts: the H13 ISP high-definition screen + voice broadcast reduce how often the phone has to be taken out to check parameters.
- Long wear and weight-sensitive roles: the H11 weighs 104g, a smaller wearing burden.
- Fleets or device pools needing remote maintenance and remote OTA: the H13 supports 4G remote parameter configuration, remote status query and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless maintenance.
Upgrading smoothly from the H11 to the H13
Both models share the same set of maintenance tools and data protocols (NMEA0183 / JSON / MQTT / JT/T808), so the platform side, return link and data fields of existing H11 projects can largely be reused; the upgrade cost is mainly terminal replacement and on-site configuration. Before upgrading, do two things: first, compile the accuracy requirements, communication protocols and return rate of the existing H11 project into a checklist; second, re-test the H13 time to first fix and repeatability at the same test points, and only replace in volume once the benefit is confirmed. For domestic projects, the H13 domestic version has a built-in eSIM + external Nano-SIM, which reduces on-site SIM-swap maintenance.
